FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Upon working together we will send you a VERY simple tutorial on how to create a Light Room catalog using smart previews you will upload to dropbox. We know large uploads can be challenging so we have additional tips and tricks we send to make the process very quick and easy. There is also a way to do this using photomechanic but the first few times can be frustrating. If you are tech savvy we can jump right into this option if you prefer (we prefer PM!) or we can start with LR catalogs and once your confidence is up try the PM method. Spoiler alert: the PM method is actually easy but when you read the steps you will be 100% convinced we are insane. I promise, we aren't! It's unconventional but works!
We require that each camera used for the event be time and date synced correctly within 10 seconds of accuracy. If this is not done there is a $39 flat fee for us to do it for you. It is very important that you DO NOT put any type of preset on your gallery in LR before sending. In our experience it creates a massive time lag when rendering images in LR as well as sometimes severely alters the images when we receive them making them difficult to see. We will not be able to complete galleries with presets. We will ask you to resend and that project will have to go to the bottom of our queue. PRO TIP: Most people don't pay attention to file names. For yourself and your second shooters have your file names correspond to each camera. I have 5 bodies. Using the settings in my cameras I use LT1, LT2, LT3, LT4 and LT5 as the start of each file name for each camera. This way images are easy to sort, easy to identify who took them and most important if when we are culling and we see a consistent issue we can tell you and you can easily see if one of your cameras is having a technical issue you need to have fixed.
We communicate. We send you a detailed questionnaire we keep on file to refer back to. You and I also will have a phone call before we begin to discuss things more. We have clients that are very particular and want very tight culls with no extras. The majority over shoot and over deliver like I do at LeAnna Theresa Photography and want to keep all the subtle difference images. Some only want one from each set of portraits and only the twirl shots where the bride sees the grooms face again. One client we have doesn't have guidelines and tells us to wing it and use our judgement! The point is we communicate with you often and read the notes you send with each job so we always know whats more important about that job and your overall preferences.
The good news is that this is impossible. You always have your original files. You are sending us a copy. There is absolutely no way for us to delete something. You need to keep your original files to export full images, you are only sending us small previews of a file. When we use LR we are flagging things with one star, if you think something is missing you just have to view unrated images and everything is there. If something you think should be included isn't it is often because it was completely out of focus or a not deliverable image. If there is something important that needs attention we will make a note when we return your gallery. Example: In all of the photos with the couple and dog sitting in front of them the couple is not in focus. You may be able to run through Topaz software and salvage.
Great question! There are only two of us and we do tend to stick to the same photographers so we can keep things consistent. But if we have to work on a new photographers project we carefully review notes prior to starting. We also share an office and are about 10 feet apart all day long, it makes asking questions and getting quick answers easy!
This depends on the peak of the season and if you scheduled your deliveries with us 30 days in advance or not. Typically we aim for 7 days but peak season can take up to 14. Clients have the option to schedule their season with us and tell us within a 2 day range when they will be sending galleries. If you have scheduled your delivery you move to the top of the queue. If you send them randomly we work on projects in the order we receive them. We only take a few clients per geographic region with the intention of spreading out everyones different busy seasons.
It is important to us that you are always happy. We ask that you check in every few projects if you feel adjustments are needed. For example, if you would like more ceremony and less similar portraits that is ok, just let us know! Art is subjective. Our partnership is one that is always evolving as we grow and communicate.
If you aren't sure where you fall style-wise, especially if you are new, we are the perfect match. After 15 years of experience and thousands of clients, I can help you. It is very hard to make decisions about our own work, sometimes having an outsider help is the perfect solution.
When we complete your project using LR we will upload a compressed file of the LR previews only. Since you have the original files still it is all you need to open the catalog! If we are using the PM method you will get just a file with text back. As we mentioned previously the PM method is not traditional but if you follow our steps it works!
We update LR as updates are sent out. Traditionally even if we do an update and you have not they work together fine. We will always suggest you use the most current version of LR when sending or opening files.
At the end of each week, an invoice is sent to you with all the completed jobs that have been sent back to you and are ready for payment. We do not invoice until a job is complete.
Yes! We will discuss delivery dates and timeframes before we begin. There is a 30% upcharge for all rush jobs.
This will be different for every client and project based on your custom needs that we establish when we start working together. We keep track for our own knowledge for all clients and projects. We were surprised to learn that between only 15-19% of original images sent end up in the final cut! Sometimes it is more but this is an average range.
We can but there is a $39 fee. We prefer you do this for your images before you send them. If they are not synced (within a 10 seconds or so) we will charge the sync fee. When the gallery isn't time synced is creates much more work on our end. We prefer when you send us everything it is in the metadata format that matches what you have sent us so there is zero room for issue when it is time to download and open on your end. We can not be responsible for any issues with opening a completed gallery because of the time sync not being correct. This is why we strongly encourage you to make the change!
